Jessica Brandl
Biography
Jessica Brandl, a native Midwesterner, works in ceramics, sculpture, and drawing.
Set in landscapes with looming architecture, turbulent skies, and misplaced objects, Brandl’s work exposes historical and eccentric places engulfed in psychological scenarios - both sinister and sublime. Surprising spatial arrangements and disjunctive scale shifts support a voyeuristic sense of seeing things from the inside out. Her current work serve as pointed souvenirs of history and the path to American-ness.
Jessica Brandl received her MFA from The Ohio State University and BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute. She is the recipient of awards including the Visiting McKnight Resident Artist, Windgate Scholar and the Rudy Autio Inspiration Grant. She Currently resides in Kalamazoo, Michigan where she is an Assistant Professor of Ceramics at Western Michigan University's Gwen Frostic School of Art.
