BIOGRAPHY
Atlanta, GA based ceramic artist, Masa Sasaki, is a classically trained artist; an accomplished pianist, award-winning painter and uniquely stylistic potter. Since moving from his native Japan in the late 1980's as a high school exchange student, he has been fascinated with the juncture of esthetic design and functionality. He holds a BA from Western Kentucky University and has worked in the fields of interior design, general contractor, sculpture, and functional form for over 20 years. Most recently he has focused his energy in creating ceramic work and has become one of most celebrated ceramic artists in the southeast. His unique one of a kind pieces can be found in fine arts galleries and museum stores throughout the county.
ARTIST STATEMENT
My work is inspired by a desire to reach beyond the moment. I believe that work produced today may have value and meaning long after I have ceased to be. Each piece combines a sense of wonder, whimsey, and aesthetic balance. In shape, color and form, they express a union between the past and the present and project an intuition toward the future; to what will one day be. While I have primarily concentrated on functional pieces, from specialized vessels to display pieces, I strive to achieve variations in form and design that express my sense of beauty, mystery, and everchanging themes.
