This special exhibition presents the work of five emerging ceramic artists from Mashiko, Japan, each bringing a fresh perspective to the town’s storied pottery tradition. Known worldwide as a center for craft and tradition, Mashiko continues to inspire new generations of makers who balance respect for heritage with bold explorations of form, surface, and technique.

The exhibition has been coordinated by Takashi Iizuka, Director of the Mashiko Pottery International Association, whose efforts support cross-cultural exchange and the promotion of Mashiko ceramics on a global stage. Assistance in organizing has also come from celebrated Mashiko potter Ken Matsuzaki, whose own concurrent exhibition of thirty works will be presented alongside “Up-and-Coming.”

Together, these exhibitions highlight the continuity of Mashiko’s legacy, from the energy of its rising talents to the refined vision of one of its most respected masters.

Up-and-Coming makers include Noriko Eki, Shinpei Fukashima, Koki Kimura, Natsu Nishiyama, and Akiko Tao.
