  • About

John Glick, Michael Simon, Phil Rogers, Warren MacKenzie.

All four men placed a strong emphasis on functional ceramics: making objects like bowls, mugs, jars, and platters meant for everyday use. Their work elevates humble utilitarian forms into objects of beauty, reinforcing the idea that art can and should be part of daily life.

Warren MacKenzie was a direct student of Shoji Hamada, a central figure in the American Mingei movement.

Michael Simon was a student of MacKenzie and carried forward that aesthetic.

Phil Rogers, a Welsh potter, also embraced Mingei values, even working extensively in Japan and Korea.

John Glick, while more decorative in style, respected functional forms and was influenced by Asian ceramics, aligning with Mingei ideals in his own way.
