Amy Song is a ceramic artist working out of Plainfield, IL. She holds a BA in studio art and ceramics from Hope College. She fell in love with wood firing at Waubonsee Community College in Sugar Grove, IL.
Established in 2018, River Song Pottery is the current home of a sizable train kiln and barn, and future home for studio spaces. Fired by a team of 10 artists over 48 hours, the kiln is an asset to the greater Chicago area ceramics community.
In 2021, the Northern Illinois Pottery Tour did a soft launch online. 2022 brought the show to life, with 20 artists participating in 4 locations. As the lead organizer, Amy is excited to see the show grow to become an annual event that the community looks forward to.
All of the work here was wood fired in my train kiln in Plano, IL. We start with kindling for the fire, then build it up to a blaze (two days later) that carries the flame through the 400 pieces of pottery and up the chimney two stories high. Pots are carefully loaded to create turbulence in the flame. The path of the flame and ash decorate the work, making every piece unique.
Dishwasher and microwave safe, they are created to be used every day!
