Noriko Eki was born in 1971 in Yamaguchi Prefecture. She graduated from Joshibi University of Art and Design in 1993. In 2009, she built a kiln in Mashiko Town. The following year, she held her first solo exhibition at Moegi, which has since become an annual event.

In 2017, her work was featured in New Vessels at the Ibaraki Ceramic Art Museum. In 2018, she participated in Wish You Found It: Utsuwa Exhibition at the same museum, as well as A la Table at the Mashiko Museum of Ceramic Art. She also held solo exhibitions at Keio Department Store in both 2018 and 2019.

I was born and raised in a place with no connection to pottery. I still remember how surprised I was when I first encountered pottery as a club activity while studying at art college, and how amazed I felt that I could create my own vessels. Decades later, I remain fascinated by the diversity and possibilities of pottery. The technique I use is called casting. I dilute magnetic clay with water until it becomes fluid, then pour it into a plaster mold that I have made myself to form the object. The plaster absorbs water from the clay, hardening it in contact with the mold. After removing the clay, I continue the work by scraping and refining the surface. Using a file and planer, I carefully finish the surface and the mouth, striving to create a beautiful shape. This method requires patience and time, but I enjoy it because it allows a high degree of freedom in shaping the work.
